Position: Educator (lesson plan/curriculum development)

Employer: S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Oral Histories Video Project


S.U.C.C.E.S.S. is looking for an educator/teacher to aid in the creation of a series of lesson plans, aimed at students ranging from Gr. 4 to 12, for the S.U.C.C.E.S.S Oral Histories Video Project. The video project will include 30 oral histories and 3-4 short films on immigrants’ journeys and perspectives, all with the goal of informing and providing students with opportunities to discuss the issues related to and the value of immigration to Canada.

Lesson plans will utilize content gathered from the oral history/video portion of the project and should be designed with the goal of incorporating the plans into the current (elementary/secondary) school curriculums. The creation of the lesson plans will also inform the production of the videos, and the chosen candidate will work with the director of the Oral Histories Video Project to compile the oral histories and short films in a way that best suits educational use. Creativity is encouraged, as is the use of new or digital media.


Duties:

  • To formulate comprehensive lesson plans that will inform the production of the videos

  • Work with the director of the Oral Histories Video Project to compile the oral histories and short films

Goals:

  • To create a series of lesson plans (ranging from Gr. 4-12) utilizing the 30 oral histories and 3-4 short films on immigrants’ journeys and perspectives.

  • Lesson plans are able to be incorporated into current (elementary/secondary) school curriculums

  • For students to discuss the issues related to and the value of immigration in Canada

Qualifications:

  • B.Ed (M.Ed preferred)

  • Experience with oral histories, digital storytelling, new media an asset

  • Knowledge of the current BC school curriculum

  • Comfortable working with groups and exchanging ideas and feedback

  • Values a respectful, friendly, working environment


Additional Details: 

  • Estimated period of employment –– Flexible part time beginning September 2017 - Spring 2018 
  • Estimated ~15hr/week –– Meeting times will be agreed upon
  • Salary –– $24.50/hr - $28.75/hr depending on qualifications and/or experience
